between Latin and English, and acquiring a bit of history.
Learning activities will include writing weekly translations (these
are not very long), reading aloud in class, worksheets and crafts,
and some cooking.
Successful students will be ages 7-10, independent readers and
writers, familiar with basic grammar and parts of speech (nouns,
verbs, adjectives), and able to spend some time each week on homework.
Students should bring the following to EACH class: pencils with
erasers, paper, crayons or colored pencils, and Latin notebook

Invention
Convention
12
pm, Maximum of 15 students, $25.00
This
science event is designed to encourage students to apply basic
science skills in a creative and productive manner. Participants
are encouraged to identify a need or to solve a problem by following
the same steps and patent application procedures that an inventor
would follow in patenting an invention. Students are directed
to use problem-solving and creative-thinking skills to invent
a product or process that would fill the need or overcome the
problem. Communication and research skills are also greatly enhanced
throughout the invention procedure. There are five basic steps
in the process: 1) Learning about inventors, 2) Finding an idea,
3) Research and Planning, 4) Developing and testing with the whole
experience culminating in the Invention Convention. The Invention
Convention will be similar to a science fair with a local inventor
judging each invention and then determining awards. This class
will require significant outside of class time and work commitments.
The process is designed with the 4th grade and older student in
mind.
