Beginning Pickin', Grinnin', Shreddin, Playin' Guitar CLOSED

**Returning guitar students ONLY**

Ages 9 and up - $ 35.00 for the semester (That equals $2.92 a class!)

Fundamentals of the Guitar as an Instrument. Application of standard musical notation to the guitar. Playing along with a beat. Chords and songs. Beginning ear training. My main focus is to make this FUN. Along the way, we'll be reading music as well as learning to play some songs. I'll do my best to make them songs the kids care about.

It has been my experience that little hands have to grow to a certain point to have sufficient strength to fret the instrument. Jumping in too soon makes for a frustrating (and not FUN) experience. As such, I'm going to limit the class to 9 years of age and older.

Students who are not beginners, please contact wendi@my-BHLC.org so we can schedule a more one on one lesson.Outside class:15-20 minutes of daily practice should suffice for the younger kids. For the older kids, 30-40 would be better. Skronking for fun is allowed anytime (and encouraged) but does not count as a practice session.

About the facilitator: Ed F. began playing guitar in the 4th grade and has studied classical technique, ear training, and has played in several different "for money" situations from restaurant classical "mood setting" to college alt. rock bands to a band that played "both kinds of music - Country AND Western. He has had students on a few occasions and is currently teaching my son Evan. For hisown musical enjoyment, he is currently working on original material for a self produced cd.

Jr. Great Books - 4th

Series 4 (9-10 year olds) - $ 35.00 for the semester *includes book* (That equals $2.92 a class!)

Each week, students will participate in Shared Inquiry Discussion about the week’s story. From the Teacher’s manual, “In this activity, students focus on a substantial problem of meaning in the story. Guided by the leader’s questions, they build well-supported interpretations in an atmosphere of cooperation. They will lean to weigh merits of opposing arguments and modify their initial opinions. By trying out and testing ideas, students also learn that the best interpretations are those that can be explained and supported with textual evidence.”

Outside Work: There will be some outside homework, probably no more than an hour a week.
